Low carb means “low in carbohydrates.” In a low carb diet, almost all sugars, both slow and fast acting, are eliminated. Sugar intake should not exceed 20 g per day (either one tablespoon of granulated sugar or two servings of sweetened yogurt).
Low carb diets are often recommended for fast weight loss. Generally, people living with Type 1 diabetes prefer low carb diets because they reduce insulin doses due to the very small amounts of carbohydrates consumed. The Atkins and ketogenic diets are the two most common types of low carb diets.
